Working from Home Made Safe

Working from home can be both a gift and a curse. While you’re able to escape the confines of your regular office space, your level of security tends to be a lot lower at home than at the office. Regardless of your location, you always want to be sure that your work is as safe as possible – free from any prying eyes. Here at FixMeStick, we’re dedicated to making sure your home work is just as secure as your office work, no matter where you are.

Even though working from home can sometimes feel like a vacation, it’s important to know how exactly you can increase your cybersecurity!

We’re here to provide you with some safety tips to help make sure that you’re protecting yourself from the threats of the internet.

Just because you’re working from the comforts of home, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your online security – here are some ways to cover all your cybersecurity needs while working remotely.

1. Make sure your personal and work accounts are secure.

There’s nothing worse than having your personal accounts hacked into, other than having your work account hacked into. It’s always recommended to create strong and complex passwords for your accounts, and using two-factor authentication is a great way to ensure that you’re the only one who can gain access.

If you’re trying to maximize your password ease-of-use, we recommend using Google Sync to store your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, and other data across browsers. This is what we use for a seamless browsing experience regardless of if we’re at the office or not.

2. Secure internet access means a secure computer.

While working at café or public space may be a relaxing change of pace, it may also increase your risk of being hacked. You end up running a lot of risks using public WiFi for work, as hackers can easily target your computer if they’re connected to the same network

However, we also advise exercising the same caution at home! We recommend using a VPN to encrypt your data while at home, ensuring that your communication is encrypted so your company’s data and your personal information remains private.

NordVPN is our top VPN pick. Plus you get a discount because you’re a FixMeStick customer! You can learn more HERE.

3. Protect yourself from viruses anyway you can.

There’s nothing worse than dealing with a virus-filled computer, especially if it’s your work computer. Depending on the nature of the virus, you may be at risk of having your personal and work information accessed, which would not only be devastating for you, but for your company as well. To make sure you’re doing all you can to secure your computer, we recommend using antivirus protection to cover all your bases.

Even if you’re being extra cautious, viruses always seem to find a way in. McAfee Total Protection is one of the best antiviruses on the market, and if you use McAfee along with running your FixMeStick monthly, you’ll have all your bases covered

Take advantage of our McAfee discount, exclusive to FixMeStick customers HERE.

4. A Fast Computer is a Good Computer

Dealing with a slow computer is one of the most frustrating things imaginable – trust us, we know. Especially in the middle of a work day, trying to navigate a slow computer can cause more stress than necessary.

However, there are still a few things you can do to speed up your computer and make sure it’s running as efficiently as possible. We’ve compiled a solid list of tips to tackle any factors influencing your computer’s speed – we recommend giving it a read here.

Alternatively, you can always use System Mechanic as a tool for defragmenting and clearing up your computer. We love using System Mechanic because it’s an easy way to stop annoying errors, crashes, and freezes by clearing any junk from your PC.

Use System Mechanic once a month on all your home PCs for one year. You can learn more here.

5. Make sure you’re using a secure computer.

Making sure the computer itself is safe is very important. If you’re not sure, why not try the StartMeStick? The StartMeStick can turn any computer into a fast, secure, and private one and bring your computer back from the dead! You can do your work efficiently and be confident you’re secure and private.

Especially if you’re using a home computer, the StartMeStick is a great way to ensure that your work files aren’t accidentally stumbled upon by family members using the same computer. Whether it’s for work, school, or anything else, the StartMeStick is a perfect solution to guarantee security and privacy.

Conclusion

With all that being said and done, being prepared is the best way to negate any sort of suspicious activity that may be happening on your computer. While a lot of us continue to work from home, make sure to stay safe, it definitely comes with various risks!

I ran the FixMeStick this weekend and no viruses but my computer seems to be running slow why is this Thank You

    • Linda -

Hi Marcel, many factors can cause a slow computer. The FixMeStick is a virus removal device, and if there are viruses on your computer that are causing a slower speed, running a FixMeStick scan can definitely speed it up.

In your case, the slowness is likely caused by an issue unrelated to viruses. Contributing factors could be how long ago the computer was purchased, the number of programs and files you have on your computer, and your computer’s memory. Try our tips here to see if you can speed it up.

        • Jonathan -

          Hi Glenn,
I’m sorry to hear that the FixMeStick wasn’t what you expected. We strive to make sure our customers get the most out of their purchase. Is there anything we can help you with to get the stick up and running?

    • Robert Hardy -

In early Feb. I bought the Gc Me Stick. When it arrived , I followed the instructions, selected English andnothing happened. after many attempts with the same results, Called your support line and talked with a rep who tried to walk me through the install burg with no success. Threes later, last Thursday, my American Express bill showed a $29.95 charge for technical report.
I called your company, was put on hold to music for 16 minutes. I then called American Express, and after telling the what happened, they Deducted the $29.95 and opened up a fraud case.
      The only accurate thing I have found out about Fix Ne Stick, is the last word, “Stick”;
Which what happened to me through your scam…

      • Linda -

Hi Robert, please note that when you click on English, that will simply bring up the instructions in English. It will not start the FixMeStick. Instead, you’ll have to click on FixMeStick.exe or the actual FixMeStick application on the bottom of the language list to start the program.

I checked your email communications with us and this is what our agent was trying to inform you in your email ticket. We sometimes have long wait times on our phone lines, this is why we prefer that you read our email instructions first before insisting that we speak to you over the phone. Regardless, I’m sorry to see that you did not have a good experience trying to reach our support. I can assure you that we have responded to your credit card dispute with American Express and we would still be able to provide you with a full refund after the dispute case closes if you’re not interested in troubleshooting this issue anymore.

I had a FixMeStick for my computer. Now I use an I-pad. Do you have a security device for my Apple notepad?

    • Linda -

Hi Christine, neither of our products can be used on the iPad. However, we do recommend using NordVPN (our partner product) to add a layer of privacy as it works on smartphones, tablets, and computers!

I had my credit card information compromised before I got a fix me stick. I bought something on line that I in retrospect shouldn’t have. Will the stick remove that cookie/virus?

    • Linda -

Hi there, yes! FixMeStick will remove any hidden viruses on your computer that might be malicious to your system.

  4. Robert O'Connell -

i have “Restoro” and “Reimage Repair” promising to clean up my computer on a daily basis. Is this you guys or do I have a virus trying to get into my system?

    • Linda -

Hi Robert, we do not make Restoro or Reimage Repair. It sounds like you might have a virus or popup. Try running FixMeStick first, if they are still there after your scan, simply let us know and we’ll look into it for you!

  5. Hugh -

I already have Malwarebytes. Can I use a VPN as well or will they just confuse the issue?

    • Linda -

Hi Hugh, Malwarebytes is not a VPN, so you should be able to run both of them at the same time!

  6. Molly -

    Hello Linda,
I have a product called VIPRE for my doing my virus scans.
Can I still use Fix Me Stick?

    Thank you.

    • Linda -

Hi Molly, FixMeStick should be compatible with Vipre. If you run into any problems running them together, simply let us know and we can look into it!
