Ransomware attacks are growing and hitting one industry in particular – health care! In the past two weeks, both LabCorp and Cass Regional Medical Center, went down for more than a week after separate ransomware attacks. And now it was revealed that last week patient records from Missouri-based Blue Spring Family Care have been compromised after hackers attacked the provider with a variety of malware, including ransomware. Keep reading for everything you need to know.
The attack was discovered on May 12th and it was found hackers had installed a variety of malware onto the computer in addition to ransomware. This gave hackers full access to Blue Springs’ system – this includes patient data. This means names, Social Security numbers, account numbers, driver’s licenses, medical diagnoses, addresses and dates of birth. So pretty much, more than enough information to steal someone’s identity.
Since, the infected computer has been quarantined to make sure no one else get this data. And now their new system encrypts all data to prevent a breach like this happening again in the future.
Unfortunately, this is just another example of the world we live in and a reminder to be extra careful. Not only do organizations need to plan and prepare for cyberattacks, you do too! Make sure you’re safe by running a FixMeStick scan today.
